A drive to collect pet food, beds and treats for the dogs and cats of the Everett Animal Shelter is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 21 at Snohomish TOP Food & Drug, 1301 Avenue D.
The Everett Animal Shelter cares for and houses unwanted pets from most of Snohomish County. The shelter's staff and volunteers prepare the dogs and cats for adoption. A shelter representative will be at TOP Foods during the May 21 drive to offer information and answer questions.
A shelter wish list also will be at TOP Foods, which has arranged with vendors to offer discounted prices for pet food and some other pet products. The shelter seeks mostly high-quality dry food; only senior pets or those with dental problems receive wet (canned) food. Treats to reward animals during training are appreciated, but none of the food should contain red food coloring. Soft pet beds for dogs and cats also are highly sought items at the shelter. Cash donations will go to the shelter's Fund for the Animals.
"Spring is a particularly difficult time of year for the animal shelter since many puppies and kittens are born and too many end up at the shelter," said Kim Walker, special events coordinator at the Snohomish TOP Foods. "We're hopeful that the community will join us in supporting our local animal shelter."
