Muscle Car Madness IV in Kent Benefits Children’s Hospital
American muscle cars of the 1960s and 1970s – such as the Plymouth Barracuda, Chevrolet Impala and Pontiac GTO – will be displayed Saturday, Aug. 30 at Muscle Car Madness IV in Kent.
Muscle Car Madness IV will be presented from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Kent TOP Food & Drug, 26015 104th Ave. S.E. Proceeds from the show will support uncompensated care at Children’s Hospital & Regional Medical Center in Seattle. Last year’s show drew more than 100 cars and raised $4,100 for Children’s Hospital.
The show, free to the public, features muscle cars – high-performance models that were powered by V8 engines and generally considered affordable – from 1960-1974. Muscle Car Madness IV also will present several drag/factory racing cars, including some that will be started in the noon hour.
Non-muscle cars are again invited to participate in the show, which also will feature music from the era of muscle cars. Thirty trophies will be awarded at 3 p.m. to cars in categories based on year, manufacturer and whether they are stock or modified.
Another highlight of Muscle Car Madness will be the appearance of 18-year-old drag racer Jeannine Johnson (www.jeanninejohnson.com) of Puyallup and her new Super Pro alcohol dragster, which has reached 170 mph in quarter-mile races. Children will be allowed to sit in the dragster for a photo and memories. A donation of at least $2 is suggested and all proceeds will go to Children’s Hospital, where Johnson is a former patient.
Pre-registration costs $15 per car and is strongly recommended. The first 100 pre-registered cars each will receive a “goodie” bag. Registration at the Kent TOP Food & Drug, starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, costs $20. Drawings for prizes also will raise funds for Children’s Hospital.
