Holiday Entertaining Food Safety Tips

Include food safety in your holiday plans and keep your guests healthy and happy!

Food handling safety risks at home are more common than most people think.

The four easy lessons of Clean, Separate, Cook and Chill can help prevent harmful bacteria from making your family sick.

To find out more click on the icons below.

Clean. Wash hands with warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds before and after handling food. Wash cutting boards, utensils, and counter tops with hot soapy water after preparing each food item and before you go on to the next food.

Clean. Rinse whole fresh produce, and rub firm-skin fruits and vegetables (or scrub with a clean vegetable brush) under running tap water. Always wash hands before and after handling fresh produce.

Separate. Don't cross-contaminate. Keep raw meat and poultry apart from foods that won't be cooked.

Cook. Cook to safe temperature. Use a food thermometer - you can't tell food is cooked safely by how it looks.

Chill. Chill leftovers and takeout foods within 2 hours. Keep the fridge at 40 degrees Fahrenheit or below.
